Product Overview

Livigent is able to provide complementary filtering techniques like image filtering, URL blacklists or white lists (in form of glob lists or regexp lists), MIME type filtering, instant messaging and P2P file sharing blocking.

These features combined are effectively creating a multi-layered filtering solution able to face the current challenges of Internet growth.
Livigent at a glance
Image altering
Livigent allows an innovative way of treating images (even for pages with allowed text content). The system administrator has the option to set a custom filter that, basically, repaints the skin-colored pixels in the filtered pages.
URL filtering
Livigent allows for custom pattern oriented URL filtering by providing support for URL blacklists (lists of blocked URLs) and URL whitelists (lists of allowed URLs). URL filtering is done through two filtering items: URL glob lists and URL regexp lists. An URL glob list is an unordered list of URLs containing wildcards or globs (*). An URL regexp list (regular expression) is an ordered list of regular expressions to be matched against the accessed URLs. The regexps offer a higher degree of control over the filtered URLs. Livigent provides a regexp validation mechanism preventing erroneous input.
MIME type filtering
Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) is an Internet standard widely used in context of e-mail, but also for the HTTP, with the purpose of supporting, among others, non-text attachments (like images, binary files etc.). Livigent uses MIME types to identify the content type of the transferred files.
Protocol filtering
Livigent features filtering support for instant messaging protocols (like Yahoo! Messenger) and for peer-to-peer file sharing protocols (like BitTorrent or FTP).
Time-controlled filtering
The option to apply time restrictions on other filtering options is fully supported by Livigent. Thus, the system is capable to provide time flexibility in filtering.
Supported users

In Livigent’s context, a user describes the type of entity the system recognizes and applies filtering policies to.

The system allows filtering of five types of clients:

  1. IP user
  2. Network user
  3. Active Directory user
  4. Active Directory Group
  5. Proxy user
Traffic Shaping
Livigent allows for per-user bandwidth management. In this way, the system administrator is able to limit the bandwidth available to each filtered user, ensuring network availability for critical business operations. Traffic shaping also discourages bandwidth-leaking habits (like video streaming or peer-to-peer file sharing).
Logging and reporting
Livigent provides advanced options for logging and reporting based on the logged data. It allows recording of detailed statistical data regarding the user activity and features in-depth reporting. By default, the system will log data for three years, depending on the actual storage capabilities of the chosen appliance.
Hardware-based solution
Livigent is a self-contained hardware appliance oblivious to the specifics of the user’s hardware or software setup. The whole filtering system resides on a standalone network appliance that simply plugs in on the local network. The user is not required to have a certain operating system or a certain network configuration. Livigent will work fine with any operating system that understands current widespread networking standards and protocols (for example, Livigent is administered through a Web interface and the browser accessing it needs to support JavaScript, to comply with accepted Web standards and to be able to display on a 1024 x 768 screen resolution).

Demo

Livigent processes various websites’ text content, offering a unique priority based procedure for filtering it. As a result of the real-time analysis, text content is classified into categories. Each category of text content can have assigned a specific filter action (allow, block, coach). The filter actions are triggered when the amount of content from a category exceeds its specified threshold.
